    Ing. Othón Canales Treviño

    DATE OF BIRTH: August 8th, 1952.

    Chemical Engineer from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, where he graduated with honors in 1975. Later on, he studied several courses in the area of business administration at ITESM.

    PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

    Mr. Canales worked several years in Industrias Resistol, S.A. then a Monsanto subsidiary in México, starting as Process Engineer in 1976; he occupied several positions thereafter, such as: Planning Manager Styrene Polymers Division, Subdirector Engineering Polymers and General Manager of Ultrapol, S.A. a subsidiary company of Resistol in partnership with General Electric Plastics.

    In 1982 he left this organization to become Chief Operating Officer of Othón Canales Ingenieros, S.C. This company has been for more than 30 years the representative of foreign companies in Mexico, covering different fields related with the Chemical, Petrochemical and Oil industries, such as: chemical intermediates, catalysts and additives.

    In 1990 he founded Quimi Corp Internacional, S.A. de C.V., from which he occupies the position of Chairman of the Board. The company is dedicated to integrate solutions in the chemical field for it’s customers.

    In the year 2001 he was invited to collaborate in Petroleos Mexicanos, the Estate owned oil monopoly as Corporate Executive Vice President for Competitiveness and Innovation, position that he held until July 2004. Currently he is Partner at INDICA Consultores, member of Farsight Group, a consulting firm in Innovation.

    Currently he is Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Woodland School in México City, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Orchestra of the Palace of Mines and previously he was member of the Board of Directors in Kappler Safety Group in U.S.A., Chairman of the Board of Trustees in The College of Chemistry at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and President of INROADS de México.

    He is member of the following associations:

    Mexican Institute of Chemical Engineers of which he was National President in 1995.

    National College of Chemists and Chemical Engineers of which he was National President in 1998.

    Vice-President of the National Union of Engineering Associations.

    Mexican Chemical Society.

    American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

    Mr. Canales has run seven Marathons and he is a licensed private airplane pilot.
